Transforming lives with Good News in the Nation’s Capital
Jul 29, 2025
Some people have a knack for praying, don’t they? It’s easy to fall into the devil’s trap of comparing ourselves with others in this area, but we can also learn from listening to their prayers.
In one respect, prayer is simple enough for a child to talk to God. And have you ever heard the beautiful but simple prayer of a young believer? It may not be flowery, but it’s heartfelt. On the other hand, those of us who have been in the faith for years can make prayer complicated or try to follow formulas for praying the right way. While there’s nothing wrong with praying a particular way — after all, Jesus modeled this with what we call “the Lord’s prayer” — the best prayer is genuine and sincere.
So how can we pray effectively? We don’t want to twist God’s arm to try to get what we want. Instead, know that His arm is able to reach down into our circumstances and meet our needs.
“Surely the arm of the LORD is not too short to save, nor his ear too dull to hear (Isaiah 59:1).
What should we pray about? If we pray according to the will of God, we must find out what is important to Him and pray about those things. Some believers practice praying the Scriptures for themselves and others. When we pray through a Bible passage, we know we are praying the will of God.
Consider praying the way the Apostle Paul did. Try it using 1 Corinthians 1:4-9:
“I give thanks to my God always for you because of the grace of God that was given you in Christ Jesus, that in every way you were enriched in him in all speech and all knowledge— even as the testimony about Christ was confirmed among you—so that you are not lacking in any gift, as you wait for the revealing of our Lord Jesus Christ, who will sustain you to the end, guiltless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.”
Give thanks for a friend, pray that the person is not lacking in any gift, and that he or she will be sustained and guiltless in Christ until the end. Thank God for His faithfulness and calling in your friend’s life. Now that’s a powerful way to pray!
Our team at Faith & Liberty is committed to prayer throughout the year, as you can see from our photos below, but we also want to intercede for your requests and needs, especially during our prayer retreat August 4-6. Please share your requests with us today, and thank you to those who have already done so.
Let us be fully assured that God answers prayer according to His will as we rest and remain in Him.
“If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you” (John 15:7).
As we look forward to our annual prayer retreat next week, we invite you to let us agree with you in prayer by name for your needs and concerns. For us, this is a quiet time to get away but not for a busy vacation; rather, this retreat is dedicated to a time to seek God for His continued direction for our ministry, to intercede wholeheartedly for our supporters, and to beseech God for revival for our nation and our leaders. Without you supporting us, both prayerfully and financially, we simply wouldn’t be here on Capitol Hill, and we couldn’t exist to fulfill the vitally important service to which God has entrusted us. Share your prayer needs at the link below — but also ask the Lord if He would have you contribute to our ministry. We thank you for praying, sharing, and giving as He leads.
Thank you!
