Maria was pressured into an abortion that permanently harmed her and from which she nearly died, but after Planned Parenthood got its money, it abandoned her while she bled for days.

This was NEVER about “choice.” It’s about profit — and we are paying to line their pockets with even more money every year. Taxpayers sent almost 700 million dollars to Planned Parenthood in 2023, and it is just one of the many abortion providers that must be defunded!

Maria Mayela Banks came to America when she was 10 years old. Her parents didn't speak English, and neither did she, at first. She turned to pop culture to learn the language and, sadly, to get relationship advice.

She got involved with a man from a nearby military base. "I was so naive," Maria said. "I didn’t understand what I was doing." She had gone to Planned Parenthood behind her parents’ back and obtained birth control pills, but she vomited every time she took them. When she got the pills, pregnancy was not even discussed.

But when she returned to Planned Parenthood, Maria received the shocking news that she was pregnant.

That is when her world came crashing down. Planned Parenthood staff said there was an "easy" solution: She could “terminate the pregnancy” and nobody would even know. Maria asked “if the procedure would hurt and if it was legal.” The staff assured her it was legal, and she could pay extra if she wanted to be sedated. While she was trying to decide, the staff got angry. She felt pressured to get an abortion and scheduled one right away, yet she didn't show up for it.

She didn't have the money for the sedative. But the staff called and pressured her to reschedule. Maria said, “A guy I worked with took pity on me. He drove me to the appointment, and his mother provided the money I needed.”

This abortion was never about what Maria wanted. It was never about what was best for her child. It was always about what Planned Parenthood wanted. Maria was just a means to an end. This is a horrible business practice, and it should be defunded immediately. Urge Congress to defund Planned Parenthood and Big Abortion NOW!

Without reading the consent form, Maria signed it and got the sedative. She remembers “blanking out,” but that is where her real nightmare started. She imagined hearing her baby screaming at some point: “It felt as if I was bound to a chair sitting in a dark room,” Maria said. “The mother in me kicked in, and I screamed for them to stop but didn’t know if they could hear me. I felt helpless to keep my baby from being torn apart inside of me. I was experiencing the horror of abortion.”  

Heartbroken, Maria couldn’t stop crying. She was bleeding so heavily that she was transported to a home nearby, where she lay on the floor in agony. She went to another home where, she said, “I laid on the floor for days until the bleeding stopped.”

But the surgical abortion left some of her child’s body in her womb. Maria felt very sick and went to the emergency room with an advanced infection. Later, on antibiotics, “I started cramping and went into the bathroom,” Maria said. “That’s when I saw the remains of my baby come rushing out.” In terror, she remembers, “All I could do was flush the toilet.”

Even then, Maria would be scared forever because the violent abortion prevented her from ever conceiving another child.

Big Abortion should not receive a single penny of taxpayer funds through Medicaid and Medicare loopholes. This must stop.

Our money is still flowing to Planned Parenthood and other Big Abortion providers. This is a fight for the soul of our nation.

Abortion is not health care.
