Transforming lives with Good News in the Nation’s Capital
May 5, 2025
This past week was a bit of a blur! We had a rather packed week with multiple major events, so over the next few weeks, we will be sharing some of the ways we were able to be a witness in Washington, D.C., through these special events.
Two of those events were dedicated to the public reading of God’s Word. First, we partnered with Seedline International ministry for the 90-hour U.S. Capitol Bible Reading Marathon (which has over 600 readers!), then we hosted the Annual Congressional Bible Reading in the House Chaplain Margaret Kibben’s office in the U.S. Capitol.
During our Congressional Bible Reading, a buzzer kept going off for members to get to the floor to submit their votes, so some members who were going to read had to cancel either for last-minute votes or because of mark-up committee meetings. Thankfully, some members were able to meet the challenge, and some read their favorite verses from their own Bibles. All of this was going on inside the Capitol at the same time the U.S. Capitol Bible Reading Marathon was going on outside — sometimes with rain!
We were indeed blessed by these events as we read and heard the Word of the Lord in our nation’s capital. We leave you with one significant passage, Isaiah 55:10-11, that reminds us of power of the Scriptures:
For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven
and do not return there but water the earth,
making it bring forth and sprout,
giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater,
so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth;
it shall not return to me empty,
but it shall accomplish that which I purpose,
and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.

You truly are an important part of our ministry, and we thank you!
Dr. Corinthia Boone, founder of the U.S. Capitol Bible Reading Marathon, starts the reading on the West Plaza of the Capitol.
We celebrated the 74th Annual National Day of Prayer, which was May 1, with many activities during the week. The Faith & Liberty team participated in Rooftop Prayer, which we co-hosted; the Prepare in Prayer kickoff event; the National Day of Prayer Congressional Ceremony; and many other events. We’ll be sharing more about these key events in a future Faith & Liberty Monday Report.
New Bible studies have started, and others continue. Many of them meet in our Ministry Center. Now there are studies meeting every evening from Monday to Thursday, and Peggy Nienaber leads one on Mondays at noon. There are also men's and women’s early morning breakfast Bible studies.
We will host a 24-hour Prayer Time this week at the Faith & Liberty Ministry Center.
Faith & Liberty staff will be attending the American Christian Leaders for Israel dinner event ahead of Israel’s 77th anniversary. Three-hundred rabbis, pastors, and Christians will come together at this event to build relationships and to celebrate.
Faith & Liberty staff will visit congressional offices to talk about the importance of combatting antisemitism, which has been rising in America.
We are planning for our annual Prayer Retreat, which will be held in August. We are requesting that you notify us of any of your prayer needs so we can pray for you by name! Please call or email Patty Bills at the Faith & Liberty office with your requests at 202-737-1776 or [email protected].

Pray for our many Bible studies throughout the week. Pray that many interns and staffers will attend and be discipled in the faith. Pray also for Peggy and the leaders facilitating each of the studies.
Praise the Lord for the Worship Nights at our Ministry Center. It’s beautiful to see all who attend who have a heart for the Lord!
Pray for our visits to the congressional offices as we share about Israel and the rising antisemitism in this nation. Pray for the members and their staff to have open hearts to these visits and to supporting the nation of Israel in this volatile time.
