Transforming lives with Good News in the Nation’s Capital
Apr 28, 2025
This week on Faith & Liberty’s calendar is always a special one. Why? Because the events we engage in highlight the importance of God’s Word and prayer — the fundamentals of the Christian life and the foundation of our ministry in Washington, D.C.
In Scripture, we see the reading of the law before the people of Israel. The people needed to know what was in the God’s law, so it had to be read publicly. Attention and respect were shown while the Scriptures were read, as in Nehemiah 8:1-3. Today, we live at a time when many Americans are apathetic about faith in public and private, so we believe it is important for God's Holy Word to be read in the nation’s capital for all to hear and heed. We are hosting or partnering in two special events for this public reading, the 90-hour U.S. Capitol Bible Reading Marathon (which now has 600 readers!) and the Annual Congressional Bible Reading in the U.S. Capitol.
Christians from across the country will also be pouring into the capital to commemorate the National Day of Prayer on Thursday, May 1. The Faith & Liberty team will be participating in many prayer-themed events where we don’t just talk about prayer, but we actually pray! One of those is Rooftop Prayer, where we look over the nation’s capital and remember our leaders before the Lord. We will also observe the Washington A Man of Prayer annual reenactment in Statuary Hall, and attend the National Day of Prayer Congressional Ceremony, as well as other National Day of Prayer events.
We know you value the Word and prayer just as we do at Faith & Liberty. This week is just a reminder of the place the Scriptures and prayer must hold every day in our lives. Thank you for interceding with us that God would be glorified in this week's special events in Washington.

Faith & Liberty partners with Seedline International for the U.S. Capitol Bible Reading Marathon, which is going on now until April 30. Saturday was launch day, and the 90 hours of public reading of God’s Word on the steps of the plaza will conclude Wednesday. We have already had readers who have read God’s Word in four languages besides English — Mandarin, Korean, Spanish, and Dutch.
Dr. Corinthia Boone, co-founder, was the first to initiate the U.S. Capitol Bible Reading Marathon, and we are celebrating who she is in Christ and what she has done by helping to host a 90th birthday luncheon today. Faith & Liberty is thankful for all Dr. Boone has done for the Lord and for America’s future, including giving scholarships to Christian young people.
The Annual Congressional Bible Reading in the U.S. Capitol will be held in the U.S. House chaplain’s office tomorrow, April 29. We have invited members of Congress to read.
Washington will be abuzz with many activities the week of the 74th Annual National Day of Prayer (May 1). The Faith & Liberty team will be participating in Rooftop Prayer, the Washington A Man of Prayer annual reenactment in Statuary Hall, the Prepare in Prayer kickoff event, the National Day of Prayer Congressional Ceremony, and many other events.

Pray for stamina during this busy week of activities around the May 1 National Day of Prayer, that God will be honored in our nation’s capital and across this great land.
Pray a 90th birthday blessing over the life of Dr. Corinthia Boone. God has used her in amazing ways!
Pray for the Monday Club Bible study and for our many Bible studies throughout the week. Pray that many interns and staffers will attend and be discipled in the faith.
