Transforming lives with Good News in the Nation’s Capital

The Faith & Liberty Monday Report

Jun 19, 2023

It was Friday morning, June 24, 2022, when the Supreme Court of the United States announced its ruling in the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization case. We’ll never forget that day! This decision not only decided the Mississippi case but also overturned the disastrous Roe v. Wade ruling of 1973.

For a half-century, we lived with abortion in America being legal for much of the child’s gestational life. While abortion activists claimed that moving the procedure to the supposedly sterile environment of a dedicated clinic made a difference in the health of the woman ending the life of her child, the change of location didn’t affect the outcome.

Life was still taken.
Trauma was still endured.
Hearts were still hurt.
Families were still broken.

To some, babies are just statistics. We firmly disagree. That is why every year, we distribute flowers in memory of lives not yet lived as they were taken far too soon.

This week, we join with other pro-lifers to celebrate the end of Roe, which although not the end of the story, it was certainly a good beginning. The fight for life continues across America because even in states where abortion has been shut down, mothers are crossing state lines — sometimes with their employers paying for the trip — to abort their child. Fathers don’t always get a say, or sometimes don’t want one.

So, we ask: How can we best fight the culture of death? Each one of us needs to answer that individually, but together, we uphold the Court’s decision last year on the side of life. Learn more below about how we are marking the end of Roe, and join us, whether you are near or far from Capitol Hill, this week.

We also value your support, as God leads you, to stand with us for life in our nation’s capital. We are grateful that we are not alone in this fight!

THE MONDAY RECAP
  • Peggy Nienaber attended the Congressional Baseball Game last week with family and many staffers and interns. Members from both political parties came together to compete on the field and raise funds for local charities in Washington, D.C. This tradition was started in 1909. Peggy was able to meet with new interns and spend time with congressional staffers at this annual event at Nationals Park.

  • Recently we have added new Bible Studies and events for congressional interns who are in D.C. for the summer.

  • We’ve been busy preparing for the events scheduled around the Dobbs anniversary date. See below!

Opportunities abound for congressional interns in Washington, D.C., for the summer.  Contact our office and ask for Patty Bills if you want to learn more about upcoming events.

COMING SOON
  • Peggy Nienaber will be participating in a press conference and rally with Senator James Lankford (OK) marking the one-year anniversary of the Dobbs Supreme Court decision.

  • Along with life events, it’s time for some fun! The Ice Cream Social is back! The 38th Ice Cream Social is an annual tradition for members of Congress, their families, Capitol Hill staff, and special guests to enjoy delicious treats. This tradition has occurred since 1983 and is a fun time to get to network those who work on Capitol Hill.

To stay informed on issues in Washington and play your part as a citizen and a Christian look for the Faith & Liberty emails throughout the week. We are in this fight together to defend and preserve those values and principles we all cherish.

PRAYER

Prayer is needed more than ever in the cause of life. During this Life Month, together let’s pray:

That the events of this week would glorify God, our Creator, and protect the lives of His children.

That children would be welcomed and not thought of as an inconvenience, and that life would be celebrated in America.

That all who are at risk of harm — from the unborn to mothers and fathers, from prayer counselors to pro-life protesters — would be protected.

That Judges and Justices would seek wisdom to rule righteously in pro-life cases.

That government leaders at local, state, and federal levels would take up the cause of life.

For an end to “abortion tourism” or travel from state to state to abort the unborn.

That parents who have aborted their child or children will repent and get the help they need to heal.

That God would raise up more men and women to offer help and counsel for those who are debating ending the life of their child.

That God would meet the needs of parents struggling to cope with bringing new life into the world.

That churches would work together in the cause of life and that pastors would speak out for life.
