Have you ever taken a MasterClass online in food or music or art? You might learn from James Patterson about writing novels, Steve Martin about comedy, or Jessie Krebbs about wilderness survival. Yes, there are all kinds of topics! When we read the Bible, we are reminded that Jesus, too, was the ultimate master teacher. He knew how to get His point across and illustrate a spiritual lesson. In Matthew 10, in sending out the 12 disciples to the “lost sheep of the house of Israel,” Jesus stayed with an animal theme for a lesson on ministry engagement:“Behold, I am sending you out as sheep in the midst of wolves, so be wise as serpents and innocent as doves” (v. 16).In one Scripture version, the title above this passage is “Persecution Will Come.” Jesus went on to give the disciples a glimpse of their future, that they would be hauled before government officials “for my sake, to bear witness before them and the Gentiles” (v. 18).He went on to assure them that they would be given the words to speak in that very moment. He said it would be “the Spirit of your Father speaking through you” (v. 20). The disciples could not have grasped all that was about to befall them after Christ’s death and resurrection as they stood as witnesses for the sake of the gospel. This challenge is also for us today. Will we be in abiding in the vine of Christ (John 15) to the point where His truth and love flows through us if and when we are also called to give an account for our testimony?A recent Freedom at Work survey shows that American workers worry about expressing their religious views in the workplace and even off the clock. This is what Jesus was talking about in Matthew 10. We must be so close to Him that we leave our fears of repercussion in His hands.Oppression is increasing for believers in Jesus in America. The distinctions are becoming clearer between those who believe in Him and those who do not. We do not yet suffer the way many who name the name of Jesus do in other countries, but the Bible warns of what is to come. Let’s not live out of fear but out of the peace and assurance that Jesus gave the Twelve as they were sent out as sheep among wolves. Please join us in prayer for our requests below, and let us know how we can pray for you, too. May we all stand strong in Him no matter what darkness we encounter!

THE MONDAY RECAP
- We participated in a planning meeting with various pro-life ministries for activities around the Dobbs anniversary. Save the date to join us Friday-Saturday, June 23-24, for these events in Washington, D.C. Please pray with us and encourage those in the pro-life movement to show love and kindness as we move forward after the Supreme Court decision overturning Roe one year ago.

Once a year the cherry blossoms make their debut, and this spring the National Cherry Blossom Festival aligned with the Blossom Kite Festival on the Washington Monument grounds with kite making, kite flying and a great time for fellowship with interns and congressional staffers.

- Our Scavenger Hunt with the interns was postponed due to the unprecedented number of congressional hearings scheduled last week on Capitol Hill. Congressional staffers ate and ran as they continued their duties until late into the evening. This gave us a quick time to pray for each one and support them through these long workdays.

- Faith & Liberty hosted the last of our two-part LEARN series, “Islam & Christianity,” diving into how to minister to those who don’t know Christ and who may have questions on this topic. Over 50 interns, staffers and others from Capitol Hill attended the Sunday event.

- Ongoing Bible Studies at our Ministry Center continue to draw interested staffers.
COMING SOON
- Meeting with staffers on the Hill. Getting out to see the cherry blossoms also gives a great opportunity to meet with staffers and interns for much needed prayer and mentoring.
- Peggy Nienaber will be a guest of the Supreme Court along with several interns to hear oral arguments in a case this week.
- Join us if you are in Washington, D.C., on Friday, April 7, at noon. We will co-sponsor a Good Friday service at Union Square, a public plaza (lower location) near the U.S. Capitol.
- The U.S. Capitol Bible Reading Marathon will take place April 22-26. Faith & Liberty will be hosting a room in the Congressional Building during the event. This gives members of Congress an opportunity to participate.
- The Congressional Ministry Fair has been rescheduled for May and will be held in the Cannon Caucus Room.
- Dobbs anniversary activities are being planned. On June 23, Faith & Liberty is sponsoring the FreshStart4Life congressional breakfast for women on the Hill, and we will participate in prayer walks. That evening, we will host a Life Reception (invite only) in our Ministry Center. On June 24, we will participate in the Make Abortion Unthinkable rally. We will also co-sponsor a praise and worship time.
- In May, Peggy will participate in Israel’s 75th Diamond Anniversary. She will be attending the congressional reception with members of Congress and the Israeli Knesset and will participate in the evening’s gala.
To stay informed on issues in Washington and play your part as a citizen and a Christian look for the Faith & Liberty emails throughout the week. We are in this fight together to defend and preserve those values and principles we all cherish.
