Transforming lives with Good News in the Nation’s Capital

The Faith & Liberty Monday Report

Oct 10, 2022

I recently heard of a missionary in a Central Asian country where it is difficult to live as a Christian. She describes the believers there as “like-minded.”

In Philippians 2:2, the apostle Paul asks the believers to “fulfill my joy by being like-minded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind.”

Paul speaks of this same attitude in Romans 15:5-6: “May the God of endurance and encouragement grant you to live in such harmony with one another, in accord with Christ Jesus, that together you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

We see this attitude of unity, support and harmony here on Capitol Hill with the ministries that work together and help each other.

We also see this attitude in you, our supporters and friends. You come alongside the Faith & Liberty team holding us up before the Lord in prayer and giving of your financial resources as the Lord leads you individually. We are so grateful!

As you do pray for us today, please have a look at the requests we share at the end of this email. If the Spirit leads you to intercede in other specific ways, we appreciate that too. We also bring you and your concerns to our great God who loves us and cares for our every need.

THE MONDAY RECAP

  • Faith & Liberty hosted a Congressional Interns Fellowship Night of fun! The scavenger hunt assigned fun tasks to the interns and helped the new interns on Capitol Hill get to know each other. This event provided an opportunity to invite the interns to local churches or to our Bible studies and fellowship times in Washington, D.C.

  • Peggy Nienaber met with staffers for coffee, lunch and dinner. When Congress is on District Work Weeks in their home states, it allows extra time for us to meet with staffers on Capitol Hill to talk with them, pray together and find out their needs.

  • Patty Bills participated in conference calls to continue to plan for the live nativity this December. Volunteers are needed for this event. Please email Patty at [email protected] if you are interested in participating.
COMING SOON
  • This Saturday there will be a 24-hour prayer event with the congressional interns. They will be praying individually for this great city, our country and the needs of others. We believe in the power of prayer. We believe that prayer is needed for our city and world at this time. Please submit your prayer requests here so we can remember you in prayer this week.
  • Our new Bible studies have begun for the Fall season. We are seeing new faces and getting to know the staffers and interns who are just beginning their internships on Capitol Hill.
  • We look forward to gathering with hundreds of Christians at the Let Us Worship event with Sean Feucht on October 22 in Washington, D.C.
  • We are planning for our Christmas nativity event, which will be here before we know it!

Legislation Alert:
Congress is in session, and many lawmakers are pushing to pass the misnamed “Respect for Marriage Act” (HR 8404). The House already passed the bill, and the Senate is rushing to have a full vote anytime now. This bill will not only push same-sex marriage by law into every state, but it also overrides states’ rights and brings the full weight of the federal attorney general’s office to file suits. As it is written, if just one state allowed incestuous or child bride marriages, this bill would force all 49 states to recognize and respect that “marriage.”

Urge the Senate to block HR 8404 by sending a fax and adding your name to our petition. Thanks!

PRAYER CONCERNS

Pray for members of Congress and others on Capitol Hill who are standing against the militant nature of the radical, anti-God agenda. Some feel defeated and need our support in prayer as they stand for truth.

Pray for the Faith & Liberty team and their families, for good health and spiritual stamina to stand against any attack coming against us.

We also want to remember those impacted by Hurricane Ian, a Category 4 storm that crossed the state of Florida in September and proceeded to affect other states as well. We encourage you to give to the Liberty Relief International effort to meet the needs of the people of Florida at this time when many have lost all.

Pray that Faith & Liberty would be a light for Christ in the nation’s capital with our reach extending across America. Pray that God would expand our reach and lead us as we bear witness of God’s love to those who don’t know him.

Our efforts to bring the Word of God to bear on the hearts and minds of our public policy makers are only possible because wonderful friends like you stand with us both in faithful prayer and in your generous financial support! Thank you!

Make a difference and partner with us.
